One of the easiest and most effective ways to improve home cooking is by the simple act of making stocks, in this class Chef Anna Davis will teach you how to make homemade vegetables, chicken, and beef stock and discuss the differences between homemade and commercially made broth. You will learn how to preserve your broth for seasons to come, make sauces, and take home a golden oatmilk, calming broth “latte” and a jar of broth that you’ve personally seasoned.

Join Rachel Denbow, well-loved blogger and author of DIY Woven Art in learning the basics of weaving on a loom. Students will receive three hours of instruction and immediate feedback as you learn to warp your artisanal loom, plain weave, add rya knots, stitch soumak, how to avoid the dreaded hourglass shape, and how to achieve a variety of designs using the stitches taught in class.

Price includes a cherry loom and tool set, warp, wooden dowel, tote bag, a wide selection of natural fibers in a variety of colorways, and a full color PDF workbook to reference at home.

Explore the surprising bursts of colors offered up by the most humble of flora, experiment with the variety of colors given from one dye pot, and create your own dye journal to document the process and chronicle the colors of the day. We’ll use both everyday dyestuffs such as yellow onion skins as well as dye extracts found in the midwest and beyond.

You’ll walk away with a trio of cotton market totes, a sampling of fibers dyed in the same vats to study their color intake, and your own dye journal to record what you learn about the various elements needed to shift color along the pH spectrum.

The class will include light refreshments and the best kind of company. Come with a friend and make it even more fun!

*Aprons will be provided in class but please wear clothing and shoes that you wouldn’t mind accidentally getting some color on. Gloves will be provided.

In this class, you will learn how to grow mushrooms outdoors on logs, using basic tools with Farmer Brendan Sinclair. We will discuss the many uses of mushrooms from culinary to health benefits and discover which varieties of mushrooms are most commonly (and most deliciously) used and why. Participants will partake in the preparation of logs for growing and harvesting, plugging their own shiitake mushroom spawn. By the end of class, students will take home their very own log that they’ve prepared for cultivating and leave with the confidence to grow mushrooms in their own backyard!

Join us for a hands-on class to learn the basics of basket weaving. You’ll flat weave a reed basket, a timeless design using simple tools, and natural materials that will look right at home when decorating for spring. We’ll walk you through the process from start to finish, beginning with treating your reed for weaving, to showing you the techniques for shaping your lattice. By the end of class, we’ll attach our braided handles to the basket you completed, and discuss methods for customizing your basket at home, like natural dying, painting, and sealing. No basket weaving experience is necessary and all materials will be provided.
