In this class, Baker Eleanor Taylor will unfold her secrets on how to achieve the perfect butter pie crust. We will focus on the technical attributes of the crust making process from chilling to crimping, cutting, and layering lattice. You will begin to understand the fine details that go into making pie crust to implement in your home kitchen. Learn the many applications of the same crust recipe for a variety of recipes from fruit to custard, or savory combinations. End the class sharing a slice of Eleanor’s pecan pie and take home her prized recipes and a pie crust made especially by you.

One of the easiest and most effective ways to improve home cooking is by the simple act of making stocks, in this class Chef Anna Davis will teach you how to make homemade vegetables, chicken, and beef stock and discuss the differences between homemade and commercially made broth. You will learn how to preserve your broth for seasons to come, make sauces, and take home a golden oatmilk, calming broth “latte” and a jar of broth that you’ve personally seasoned.

Join Rachel Denbow, well-loved blogger and author of DIY Woven Art in learning the basics of weaving on a loom. Students will receive three hours of instruction and immediate feedback as you learn to warp your artisanal loom, plain weave, add rya knots, stitch soumak, how to avoid the dreaded hourglass shape, and how to achieve a variety of designs using the stitches taught in class.

Price includes a cherry loom and tool set, warp, wooden dowel, tote bag, a wide selection of natural fibers in a variety of colorways, and a full color PDF workbook to reference at home.

Explore the surprising bursts of colors offered up by the most humble of flora, experiment with the variety of colors given from one dye pot, and create your own dye journal to document the process and chronicle the colors of the day. We’ll use both everyday dyestuffs such as yellow onion skins as well as dye extracts found in the midwest and beyond.

You’ll walk away with a trio of cotton market totes, a sampling of fibers dyed in the same vats to study their color intake, and your own dye journal to record what you learn about the various elements needed to shift color along the pH spectrum.

The class will include light refreshments and the best kind of company. Come with a friend and make it even more fun!

*Aprons will be provided in class but please wear clothing and shoes that you wouldn’t mind accidentally getting some color on. Gloves will be provided.

In this class, you will learn how to grow mushrooms outdoors on logs, using basic tools with Farmer Brendan Sinclair. In this class you will learn the basics of homemade bread baking with a holiday Scandinavian twist. Chef Anna will take you through her tried and true recipe for julecake, a holiday bread sweetened with honey and spiced with cardamom. You will weigh ingredients, mix and rise your dough and practice pinching, rolling, shaping and scoring techniques. While your bread is baking you will whip up fresh berry preserves. We will end the class garnishing a warm slice of bread with whipped butter, Scandinavian cheese, and lingonberry preserves. You will take home your loaf of bread and homemade preserves.
